As the Lead Teacher you will work and collaborate with others while fostering a warm and nurturing environment for preschool students where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged and individuality is respected. In this role you will implement and oversee preschool based curriculum, prepare materials for lessons that meet individual and group needs as well as implementing bible stories and leading prayer with students. Encourage safety while supervising children while teaching proper behavior. Establish and maintain open communication with children, parents, preschool staff, church staff, and State of Minnesota licensing personnel is required. The Lead Teacher also serves as the Transportation Director, ensuring safety for children coming to preschool on the bus, as well as transport children as needed. This role requires the utmost attention to detail, including great communication, time management and organizational skills. Qualifications: Combination of education and experience generally acquired through the attainment of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the ability to:
Implement preschool-based curriculum that meets the emotional, physical, cognitive, social and spiritual needs of both the individual and the group.
Ability to implement Christian curriculum including bible stories and prayer with students, parents, board members and other staff members.
Prepare lesson plans which are age-appropriate and include activities in all the necessary areas of child development. Individual planning may also be necessary outside of working hours. Planning must be in advance of the day for which an activity is used.
Manage time accurately by preparing materials for lessons sufficiently, ensuring the classroom runs smoothly and meets each individual and group needs.
Use appropriate and positive discipline
Encourage and enforce school and class rules to help teach students proper behavior.
Supervise children closely; provide an environment that promotes safety, discouraging accidents through proper choice of activities and equipment.
Maintain record keeping; including but not limited to tuition payments, attendance and calculating grades in partnership with other staff as needed.
Monitor supplies and equipment including: preparation, clean up, organization of storage and equipment areas and play areas.
Follows weekly and monthly cleaning / disinfecting chart for all areas, including empty bathroom garbage, vacuum preschool hallway and clean cubbies.
Notify Preschool Board of any maintenance needs.
Promote good health and safety habits and apply this to snack preparation.
Meet regularly with the Teacher Assistant to review lessons and materials needed for classroom projects or activities, including special events.
Collaborate well with others; including children, parents, board members, church staff, visitors and State of MN licensing personnel.
Establish and maintain open communication with parents; including parent/teacher conferences.
Maintain communication with parents informally on a daily basis and with other events as applicable.
Maintain communication via social media; making timely posts and updates on what is happening in the classroom as applicable.
Maintain open communication with the Teacher Assistant. Be supportive and helpful. If problems arise, report to the Preschool Board.
Be a representative of St. Matthew Community Preschool and participate in fundraising events and other important community events.
Schedule one community activity into curriculum each month (example: field trip, special visitors)
Perform other duties as assigned by the Preschool Board.
Safely transport students by bus to and/or from daycare to preschool as required.
Maintain a current First Aid and CPR Certification card.
Attend staff meetings and maintain professional status by completing continuing education requirements as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Health and Safety Officer: oversee all fire, tornado, and lock down drills. Assure all safety guidelines are met.
Transportation Director: oversee the safety and maintenance of the preschool bus.
Assure all safety guidelines are met; including DOT inspections.
Complete and maintain State of Minnesota’s BEST certification for Basic Education for Travel. Renew every 5 years.
Communicate with daycare providers arrival/departure schedules for school year, as well as daily communication as needed for delays, school closures or changes to the route.
Oversee the curriculum planning
Assure the curriculum is age-appropriate.
Set up morning meetings with staff to communicate the schedule, goals, and objectives of the day
Attendance at Preschool Board meetings as needed per board request. The Director/Lead Teacher will provide a monthly update (classroom updates, transportation updates, concerns, enrollment, miscellaneous) prior to the Board meeting.
Abides by State of Minnesota licensing requirements, as well as complete / maintain necessary state paperwork.

Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited institution and/or qualifies for employment under Minnesota State Guidelines.
Have two (2) years of successful teaching experience with children in elementary education or preschool.
Be sensitive to children’s needs and have a sincere interest in children.
Be well organized, competent, creative and enthusiastic.
Be fair, sympathetic and consistent in dealing with children, parents and staff.
Ability to recognize and record significant individual and group behavior.
Become acquainted with a wide range of instructional materials and media
Possess a First Aid and CPR Certification card (or willing to obtain each)
A valid Driver’s License.
Possess a State of Minnesota BEST certification for Basic Education for Travel.
